If you are a Macropod Carer and use to used Ilium Selvite E (before Troy Laboratories stopped manufacturing it in Australia in 2010) and don’t want to risk the scientifically proven treatment of Myopathy (using non proven Vit E concoctions), feel free to contact me.   wildlife.rescue.care@gmail.com

I having been importing a identical replacement product from the US. Many carers, Aust Zoo Wildlife Hospital, Qld RSPCA Wildlife Hospital, Currumbin Wildlife Park are all using this product now.

The balloon industry  has set “standards” for themselves claiming that releasing balloons that are hand-tied, so-called, “biodegradable” latex balloons without any attachments of ribbon is environmentally friendly. Balloons at Funerals, Memorials ect always have ribbons/string attached. Only super large balloon releases (sporting venues ect) may NOT have string or ribbon. The balloons pictured below were released to their standards. Some are months old, some are years old. Natural latex may be biodegradable, but after adding chemicals, plasticizers and artificial dyes, how natural could it be? It may degrade after several years, but it’s surely not “biodegradable.”

All released balloons, including those falsely marketed as “biodegradable latex,” return to Earth as ugly litter. They kill countless animals and cause dangerous power outages.
Balloons are also a waste of Helium, a finite resource. Balloons can travel thousands of miles and pollute the most remote and pristine places.

While some balloons burst, others just gradually deflate. But they all fall back down to Earth where they can wreak havoc on wildlife on land, sea, and air. The proof is in the photo gallery.

Dolphins, whales, turtles, and many other marine species, as well as terrestrial animals such as cows, dogs, sheep, tortoises, birds and other animals have all been hurt or killed by balloons. The animal is usually killed from the balloon blocking its digestive tract, leaving them unable to take in any more nutrients. It slowly starves to death. The animals can also become entangled in the balloon and its ribbon making the animal unable to move or eat.
Sea turtles are particularly at risk because they naturally prey on jellies, which balloons can easily be mistaken for, even with human eyes.
Balloons can take years to break down, even the so-called “biodegradable” latex ones. This gives plenty of time for it to travel and encounter many animals that may mistake it for a tasty snack, or accidentally get entangled in it.

Some states and countries have enacted laws regarding the release of balloons. The Balloon Council, and other balloon industry entities, spend millions of dollars lobbying to keep balloon releases legal. This multi-billion dollar industry encourages consumers to litter with their product. Releasing balloons should be included in already existing litter laws, after all, it’s simply littering. Check out balloon laws to learn more and find out how to help.

BALLOON LAWS

Mass balloon releases are illegal in several states, cities, and countries. Releasing balloons and sky lanterns should be illegal everywhere, because after all, it is simply littering.
States that have laws: California, Connecticut, Florida, Tennessee and Virginia.
Cities that have laws: Ocean City, Maryland; Louisville, Kentucky; Huntsville, Alabama; San Francisco, California; Nantucket, Massachusetts; Provincetown, Massachusetts; and Baltimore, Maryland.
Laws in other countries: Plymouth-UK, ALL of New South Wales-Australia and Sunshine Coast-Queensland-Australia.

SKY LANTERNS

Similar to released balloons, sky lanterns all return to earth as litter. They are often marketed as “biodegradable” or “earth- friendly,” both untrue. Sky lanterns are made with treated paper, wires and/or a bamboo ring. They can travel for miles and always land as dangerous litter. Sky lanterns have caused huge structure fires and wildfires. This flaming aerial trash has caused serious burns to humans and killed animals who eat them or become entangled in their fallen remains.
Entire countries have banned the use of sky lanterns, including Argentine, Austria, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, New Zealand, Spain, Germany and parts of Canada. In the USA, bans include Alaska, California, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia and Washington. Other states, including Kansas and Missouri and the New York Division of Fire Prevention and Control, are also looking into adopting changes to fire codes to regulate the use of sky lanterns.

The FAA has raised concerns over the use of floating lanterns as they can be sucked into aircraft engines.

There is a report that a sky lantern started a wildfire in Colorado on Saturday, March 12. A writer on Pinecam.com said that between 11:00 and 11:45 p.m. one of three of the devices that were released landed in vegetation and started a small brush fire. It occurred near Pine Grove, which is another name for Pine, Colorado.

People cited for using fire balloon that may have started wildfire
Wildfire Today – July 15, 2015
A fire balloon is the suspected cause of a wildfire that started just before midnight Tuesday night on Y-Mountain near Provo, Utah. These dangerous devices that use a small flaming object to inflate and loft a plastic or paper balloon are also called sky lanterns and Chinese lanterns.

Wildlife rescuer Terri Eather – a woman to support
Sun, 2012-02-05 02:12 — Jaylene
Having spent her working life as a police officer seeing the most horrific acts of human depravity and violence and where she was hurt on duty, Terri says she could handle that … what she can’t handle is the barbaric cruelty inflicted on those that cannot fight back and has seen many animals who were beyond her care because of a sickness in society today.
For close to 40 years, Terri Eather has been caring for injured and orphaned wildlife. This Angel of Australia is one of the most respected wildlife carers in this vast country. Spending a day with Terri at her Cornubia home gives you a fair idea of why this disability pensioner is the backbone of saving a plethora of native animal species…….. to read the rest of this story please go to:   http:candobetter.net/node/2763 .

Peacock

I was brought a Peacock that was very sick. The Member of the Public hoped I would be able to save him. Unfortunately he died with 2 hours of arriving. I was devastated that this spectacular bird had died. I didn’t want his death to be in-vein. So a package up his body and put him in the freezer. Every time someone came over I asked them if they would help me “pluck” the feathers. No one would help, so eventually I speant several hours plucking him. Then I wanted to make something that was fitting for his spectacular beauty. This is what I created………….

Little Rambo - Wallaroo Joey There is an Animal Angel (also a child Angel who is a teacher) in Longreach – Central Queensland & the middle of NO where. She rescues abused, and dumped, cats, kittens, dogs and puppies. Cares for them. Personally pays for all their food, care, Vet treatment, injections and desexing. In her spare time she also rescues and cares for wildlife tries to stop the BARBARIC CRUEL MASSACRE of Kangaroos. This week she ended up with 6 Macropod joeys. She is NOT allowed to take them to school (so she can feed them) or even have them in her rented house. The little Wildlife Warriors in her class her keep the secret when necessary. So this morning Animal Angel head off 420 km (260 miles) each way) to take the 6 joeys to a Licensed carer. Animal Angel has “collected” several” joeys from a Member of the Public including Rambo  (NOT Licensed Wildlife Carer). Raising orphaned wildlife is VERY specialised and NOTHING like raising puppies or kittens. This is little Rambo all snuggled up in a pouch. The Human that was raising him has NO licence and ILLEGALLY raises many Kangaroos & Wallaroos. His new adopted Mother has said it looks like he fractured his foot and it was never taken of. This may mean that he has to be euthanased. He is weights 3 kgs (6.6 pounds). And the MOP weaned him at Christmas time – 3 mths ago, so no milk. He is approx 70% under weight. The Mop didn’t have him sleeping in a pouch like he should be (his Mother would have him in the pouch for at least 6 more months). He should not have been weaned until he weight approx 8 to 10 kgs (17 to 22 pounds). He has extremely brittle bones for NOT having at least 20 mins EVERYDAY sunlight for vit plus NOT being fed a formula that is especially made for Macropods. He has no muscle tone, no “baby” fat. He also should have a huge pen to hop in to develop good strong leg & heart muscles, which he will need when he is released into the wild to get away from predators. I ask my self almost daily why humans (Members of the Public) think that they should be able to raise any wild animal.

Four Corners ABC TV Monday 16 Feb 2015

I find it extremely interesting that Greyhound Racings Major Sponsor is Macro Meats.
Macro Meats would have been aware of the use of live animals to “blood” the Greyhounds.
Macro Meats support the “Australia World Record for undertaking the largest & cruelest Mass Murder of an animal.” Worse that the Canadian Seal Pup Clubbing”. Whale hunting, Dolphin slaughter at Taija Cove.
Aussies have been brainwashed and Kangaroos are scapegoats for the destruction of land from camels, cattle, rabbits, horses, sheep (introduced animals).

With “Drive by” shooting it is 100% impossible to kill ANY kangaroos humanely.
Pay attention to the second shooter.
Kills a protected Roo
The furred joey they remove from the pouch and he comments “it is just being a slacker for sitting in Mum’s pouch”, he/she was NOT old enough to even be having a very short time out of the pouch and would still be drinking milk for at least 12 more month.
Then there is the “pinkie” that the shooter stomps on & then his son.
The boy swings & bashing a lightly furred joey on a bumper.
Notice the alive & still moving Roos hanging by the hock.
Russia was the biggest importer of Kangaroo meat. They stopped when they realised that eating kangaroo meat can cause death, causes birth defects of unborn babies.

Please watch this short video Developers & heavy machinery operators could careless if the kill wildlife so they can make money.

I  have rescued  several koalas that have been forced into this situation. Koala can get terrible fractures & even die from the actions of these people. They are required to have “Spotter Catchers supervising” the bull dozing of wildlife trees. But alas many Spotter Catchers don’t do the job that is required of them or they don’t care about the wildlife.
